Death penalty: Should it stay or go?

Good Morning Bloggers!

A UN report has concluded in its findings that the support for abolishing the death penalty is increasing. What are your thoughts on the death penalty? Should it be abolished?
I personally think it should be abolished because I believe living behind bars is a bigger punishment for those who have committed crime!
What are your reasons for supporting or disagreeing with the death penalty?

Voice your opinions!

I partly agree with you because jail can be much more worse than death but even in jail the perpetrators have a "life" which allows them to communicate with other persons and maybe also to achieve forgiveness through remorse and I believe that they shouldn't get a chance to get forgiveness because some horrible mistakes cannot be forgiven. Furthermore the death penalty calms down the victims because as a victim you feel more secure when the perpetrator is dead. Besides most of the candidates who are on death row mostly really deserve it because they have done such horrible crimes.

I think this is an ongoing debate which will be very difficult to conclude.

I think the death penalty acted as a great deterant to criminals as they would not want to lose their lives but are prepared to live behind bars.

It can be seen as extreme and go back to ethics, as to why and how do the government have the power to take someones life!

I dont believe in the death penalty as such but the deterant factor of it is definately a high point. Criminals will be alot more afraid to commit crimes.

i thinks the regulations behind who recieves the death penalty should be revisited as there are certain criminal who do deserve it.

on the other hand living behind bars either rehabilitates them or with the way in whcih jails are functioning, it could make them bigger criminals once released.

Either way I am more for bringing back the death penalty and making laws slightly tighter for criminals.

I think the only "advantage" of the death penalty is the fact that the state saves money. (Which in fact isn't as much as you might think, as "killing" sb. is pretty expensive too)
Do you really think that someone can have the RIGHT to take another's life?? Isn't the state becoming a murderer as well??
Just because the victim's relatives feels better is no reason at all in my opinion- death because of revenge doesn't belong into our "modern" and "enlightened" (?) world.
Additionally it's EVERYBODY'S right to achieve forgiveness and to regret what they've done.

i also think it works as a very good deterant but it still doesnt stop people who commit crimes out of desire.

Furthermore most death row candidates are convicted because of murder or even mass murder, consequently they dont respect the human rights either which declare that every human has the right to live. Hence I can understand why the government has the power to take someone's life.

I think the death penalty should be abolished because death is an escape for murderers and they shouldn't get the easy way out!

I agree with u all.. I am personally against the death penalty as well! However I guess for countries where power and authority are the key to keeping people in their place, rely on the death penalty.
Did you know that China, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United States (mostly Texas) make up 93 percent of all executions?

The death penalty might be a good deterant in most cases but it could also motivate perps to commit a second or even a third crime. If one knows he's gonna die, there is no necessity for him to stop. In the case that it was a crime commited in the heat of the moment the probability that the person will do it again is marginal but increased.

I think it should go coz i think the state should not be able to control this! And i do think like Irina said that the state tries to save money by by passing the death penalty.
